Who we are

Smart Compound Garden runs a pilot of self-watering vegetable gardens in Lamin, The Gambia. Contact: info@smartcompoundgarden.com.

What we collect

Messages and photos that participating families send to our WhatsApp number (for example a photo of the harvest on the scale or of the garden wall), and their phone number.
Measurements from the garden: soil moisture, water use, temperature and solar power.
The harvest: date, crop and weight.

Why

To run the garden, give advice on watering, planting and harvesting, and learn from the pilot how well the garden works. Photos may be read by an automated assistant (AI) to recognise the crop, read the weight on the scale and spot problems with the plants.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal data and do not use it for advertising. We ask families not to send photos of people.

Where it is stored and for how long

Data is stored with our hosting and messaging providers (Cloudflare and Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform) and, for photo reading, processed by an AI provider. We keep pilot data for as long as needed for the pilot and its evaluation, and at most two years, unless the family asks us to delete it earlier.

Your choices

Participants can ask to see or delete their data, or stop taking part, at any time by sending a WhatsApp message to our number or an email to info@smartcompoundgarden.com.
